Rochon is the daughter of Zelma Staples and Samuel Staples. She was born in Torrance, Los Angeles, to Zelma Staples as well as Samuel Staples. Rochon is a 1982 graduate of Cerritos High School in Cerritos, California. She received her bachelor's degree of broadcast journalism and minors in the theater and sociology departments from California State University Dominguez hills (CSUDH). Rochon was the keynote speaker for CSUDH's College of Arts and Humanities graduation ceremony in 2016.

Ullerup was Ashley Magnus for the first season and then the second on Sanctuary before the character was created. The character was the topic of heated discussion amongst viewers who wanted her to return in future shows. The show was removed in the year 2012. Ullerup appeared as Bree O'Brien, in Chesapeake Shores. Ullerup was Maggie Thomas, the estranged spouse to Michael Thomas, in the disaster movie Asteroid: Final Impact (2015). Ullerup regularly appears as Dale Travers, in the Hallmark Signed, Sealed, Delivered movie series, since the year 2016.
